ISR: Mr. Schwizer, which Team Service installations have you recently put into operation in Zermatt?
Markus Schwizer: In 2022, we built the first Team Service conveyor belt at Trockener Steg. Last year, the second was installed at Testa Grigia.
ISR: What are the technical specifications of the conveyor belts?
Markus Schwizer: The Trockener Steg belt is 60 meters long, and the Testa Grigia belt is 90 meters. The transport capacity for both belts is 1600 people/hour.
ISR: What are the priorities for Zermatt Bergbahnen regarding such installations, and what are the conditions on site?
Markus Schwizer: The most important thing is to ensure flawless operation and ease of use. At Trockener Steg, the belt was placed on normal ground. It was designed to withstand winds of 160 km/h. At Testa Grigia, the requirements were more complex. Since the belt is partially on the infill material of the new 3S cable car and partly on a glacier, a substructure was necessary. This substructure compensates for ground subsidence up to 80 cm, allowing us to keep maintenance costs as low as possible.
ISR: What is the level of maintenance required for these installations?
Markus Schwizer: The installations require daily checks, which are carried out directly via the touch panel on site. The time required is about 15 minutes per day. The installations are remotely monitored from the control room of the 3S cable car.
ISR: What do customers want to be satisfied with the service?
Markus Schwizer: Customers want to be transported simply and safely.
ISR: Can a system like this influence your customers’ bookings?
Markus Schwizer: I believe that for smaller ski resorts, it could be a deciding factor, while for larger ones like Zermatt, it’s part of the offered service.
ISR: In other words, can such systems differentiate a ski resort from others?
Markus Schwizer: Yes, it’s part of our strategy, which is focused on premium and comfort.
ISR: Why did you choose Team Service?
Markus Schwizer: The value for money and the flexibility of Team Service were decisive for us. In the Testa Grigia project, Team Service fully met our requirements.
